Chase! I appreciate you referencing my previous note around trading presence for optimization. Presence is something I am trying to be more intentional about. I also believe presence and time are the greatest gifts we can give our loved ones.
I like the balance you're striking between taking care of the non-negotiables (especially wedding planning, work etc..), but then also slowing down with purpose. It's never either or, but both/and. That balance will pay dividends and avoid future exhaustion and over-optimization.
I work in the software development space and we are EXPECTED to use AI for just about everything - where everything needs to be lean and efficient. It is very easy for that type of thinking to bleed into our every day lives.
Thank you for the reminder on the importance of slowing down.
It's funny how you talked about slowing down and taking a bit of time to relax and recharge, while I posted about the same topic just 4 days before you in "How to stop measuring our lives only by what's missing"! We must have been synchronised. Love this piece, taking time to slow down is so important
Love it Chase, and scheduling time for relaxation is 100% the best way to slow down! Crazy that we time block everything else except that, and then expect our lives to not get chaotic. The productivity race never ends up with us as the winners, even if it might trick us into thinking that.
Absolutely phenomenal! Whilst the business world rewards speed, human growth likes it slow.
I love that you recognised that sprinting for another week will just lead to burnout lane.
Made me laugh when you mentioned digital clean up! I do that sometimes where I even change my phone set up, delete apps I don’t use; finally close those 40 YouTube apps that are never getting opened. Somehow it tends to help doesn’t it ahah.
Thanks for the reminder! Life is more enjoyable when every now and then when we slow down enough to notice everything around us, instead of focusing on everything but now. I think it also helps with gratitude — which also makes life that much better!
Work should be hard. I believe in that principle at my core, but there's a difference between general improvement over-time and this rush to improve that we see today.
I'm with you on the tabs, I don't do it enough and I'm now working on a system that will help me manage it on an ongoing basis. I hope I feel some clarity from doing it this week!
Comment inspired me to dedicate my daily journal to gratitude today, definitely overdue and a great practice to ground yourself in the now.
100%! I think initially it's really difficult knowing what the difference between 'this should be hard' and 'I'm making this hard for myself I need to stop' is, but once we find what that is, it becomes a lot easier.
Funny how that came about! You inspired me to be more grateful today, which reciprocated lol - love that.

Enjoy the summer!

We’re on the same page! Typically the summer growing up always brought the chance to do this and I want to bring that energy back.
With a lot of big events coming up, I’m trying to be mindful of how much energy I have so I can continue showing up the best for everything.

Thank you for reading Dido! One of the best “skills” I’ve developed in recent years is finding time to relax more.
This year has inevitably been crazier than others, but after 5.5 months of really hard work, I know it’s time to slow down and recover a bit.
It’s better to live with a sustainable energy than burn out each year from not managing our speed and energy!

Thank you for reading Mick!
